Whether you are a tourist visiting Tenerife for the first time or you have lived here all your life, you will surely know that the sunsets on the island are incredible. Its orography, its difference in altitude and its different landscapes mean that in every corner of the island you can enjoy a special and unique sunset.
From Villa Adeje Beach Hotel we suggest some of the best places to enjoy a sunset on the island. Enjoy it!
Punta de Teno
This is the westernmost point of Tenerife. Although the road to Punta de Teno is not at all easy, it is certainly worth it. On the way there you will be able to enjoy spectacular views, as the road winds its way between impressive cliffs.
Its most emblematic point is the Punta de Teno Lighthouse, built in the 19th century. This lighthouse, painted with red and white stripes, is one of the seven lighthouses on the island and, without doubt, one of the most captivating.
From Punta de Teno you can see the cliffs of Los Gigantes, as well as the islands of La Gomera and La Palma on the horizon. With these incredible views, here you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island of Tenerife.
La Tejita Beach
Located in El Médano, it is one of the most spectacular beaches in the south of Tenerife.
This is a golden sandy beach over a kilometre long. With its spectacular views of the volcanic cone of Montaña Roja, this place is a must for visitors to the island.
All this scenery is even more impressive if we add the reddish tone of the mountain to the colours of the sunset. You can’t miss it!
Playa de Las Américas
If we are talking about places to enjoy a good sunset, we cannot leave Playa de Las Américas behind. This beach located in the south is one of the most popular on the island.
The good climate of the area and the great variety of services it offers make it a popular place to visit all year round for locals and tourists. As well as being able to enjoy a good swim, it has a promenade with shops and restaurants.
This place is ideal for enjoying a sunset while strolling along the avenue or from any of its beachfront terraces.
Los Gigantes
One of the best ways to end the day is by the cliffs of Los Gigantes. This place is also located on the west coast of Tenerife. It is made up of vertical walls up to 600 metres high rising above the sea.
Whether from a boat, from a terrace or from the beach, admiring this panoramic view is a real spectacle at any time of day. But if you get the chance, stay until sunset… You won’t regret it!
El Teide
Last but not least, a sunset at El Teide. As we have already mentioned in other blog posts, the National Park is an obligatory stop for visitors to the island.
If it is already an incredible experience to admire it, watching the sunset at the highest point of the island (and of Spain) will be unforgettable. Here are some of the best spots to enjoy the sunset on El Teide:
Chipeque Viewpoint
This viewpoint is located on the way to Teide, going up La Esperanza. It is one of the best known, as at sunset you can enjoy breathtaking views. Teide and the island of La Palma in the background, the sea of clouds, the Orotava Valley… A unique sunset!
La Tarta Viewpoint
Going up to the Cañadas del Teide, you will find a curve where you can see different coloured layers. These are the result of different geographical features. Here you will find another of the most visited viewpoints in the area, La Tarta Viewpoint.
From here you can also see the peak of Teide in the background over a spectacular sea of clouds. Undoubtedly, a dream view to watch the sunset.
Roques de García Viewpoint
Probably the most visited, the Roques de García viewpoint. Opposite the Parador de Turismo, it is the stop par excellence when visiting the National Park. These rock formations with Mount Teide in the background make up one of the most unique landscapes in Tenerife.
Add a sunset to this stunning location and you’ll end the day in the best possible way.
